Transparent and opaque Modern H House by Wiel Arets Architects

Taking 4 years in completion in the year of 2005 up to 2009 this H House by Wiel Aret Architects located in Maastricht, Netherlands is simply astonishing. The simple modern house from distance able to trick my senses that it was actually a water reflection when it’s being photographed, but after you look closely you will notice that the house is two storey building which looks relatively and closely similar between each level.

This modern house was made for clients which the couple has occupation as a dancer and as an actor. The single loft like home has two smaller independent spaces where adjacent to this main volume you will find the entrance and bathroom. I love the combination of transparent and opaque glass, with the sliding and fixed portion of the modern home design facade. The transparent glasses will give enough lighting thus you will only need small portion of lighting bring towards the house and it means that you save energy.

The spaces of the house designed by Wiel Arets Architects are full with richness due to the layering of this unadorned configuration which is then supported by the good use and combination of material and variations.

Business Center Gorriti 6046-56 was designed by ATV Arquitectos located in Buenos Aires. The project seeks to take advantage of opportunities arising from the complexity and heterogeneity of this sector of the versatile new neighborhood called Palermo Hollywood, which tends to settle as a new hub of commercial offices, professional firms and producers of film and TV.

The building takes as problematic projecting shaft of repetition, variation, flexibility and clustering of different types of offices, offering different levels for potential users. It provided for a central circulation core that organizes the different areas of use around the same in all plants. The volumetric composition of the project raises two perceptual scales that in turn define programmatic changes in the set.

A piece of architecture in the form of “U” contains the four levels of flexible units where continuity of the horizontal planes of concrete defined expansions. The volume ratio of divisible office to the outside is filtered through frosted glass vertical planes that form the boundary of the same. In alternating repetition, such drawings, determine a random pace according to their function. This volume takes the scale defined in the environment, available on a delayed plane glaze volume for open plan offices on upper floors, where the expansions and the frosted glass denote the volume rhythmic continuity that forms the lower floors.

The project focuses its attention projecting into the interstices and relations that generate different uses and different programmatic interrelated through spatial continuities and changes, materials and perspectives.

Queen Elizabeth Square by Anderson Bell + Christie Architects in Scotland

This is a regeneration project south of the Clyde using some of Glasgow’s most highly-rated contemporary architects. The designer this building is Anderson Bell + Christie Architects . This is social housing development nearing completion in the Gorbals, Glasgow, Scotland. Bruce Newlands was the designer / project architect with ABC at the time but since moved on to set up Kraft Architecture. The development is for Ogilvie Homes & New Gorbals Housing Association and is one of the last Phases in the Crown Street Regeneration Masterplan

That’s what Chad Oppenheim, head of Miami-based Oppenheim Architecture & Design, asked himself while putting together his architectural thesis at Brown University.

The question became the impetus for his latest project: a condominium complex, set to be completed by the end of 2010, that takes a bottom-up, user-generated approach to constructing residential space.

Cube promotes its occupants to design their own domain with the possibility of connecting multiple cube modules vertically, horizontally, and diagonally in addition to creating double height volumes, garden voids and cantilevered living environments.

In a building that is going beyond the box, you buy cubes of space and then you decide how they are being placed together. You can arrange your cubes of space horizontally of course, vertically which is nice, and then you can go beyond any expectation for a high-rise.  You can tell Oppenheim you want the cubes to meet diagonally, have an open space (they are calling them “voids”) for say, a garden, and even leave the building and jump out into space.  In the CUBE building that wouldn’t be a balcony jutting off the side, it would be the entire cube of space, 625 sq ft.   Like in the style of Cubism the objects, in this case, living spaces, are broken up and looked at from an abstract perspective.  Chad Oppenheim, says of it, “ The original inspiration was my thesis project at Cornell, an idea of creating a vertical neighborhood, with people building and defining their own domains similar to how they do so in horizontal developments of single family houses.”[i] 

To further complete the cubist analogy, many cubists felt that time was the 4th dimension and time was best represented as a cube; the very center of the cube being the current reality of the person.  In the CUBE it works out that time will stay current because the CUBE system isn’t just great for the original buyers of the condos, it also makes it easier for future residents to remodel.  Future laborers with sledge hammers can go through walls sure, we expect that, but how about the floors?  Oppenheim wanted all of CUBE’s users to have endless possibilities but, as he puts it, with a laugh, “We didn’t want to give them a leash to hang themselves.”[ii] 

They achieve this by grouping the necessary elements – plumbing, electrical, air treatments – in a central core.  This is a classic technique in Modern architecture which here is being refined and taken to another level.  In the case of this building aptly named CUBE, Oppenheim met with his engineer, Ysreal Seinuk and asked “What if we do the structural system on the outside, a girded, diagonal bracing, so we don’t need sheer walls coming down internally?”[iii] Together they found that by placing a strong steel frame on the exterior to carry the load of the weight, the building becomes more economical, and since the floors are not cantilevered or sources of support, they become as non-essential as a dividing wall.

The building starts construction this year, 2008 in Miami’s design district.  Specifically it will come to be at 50 NE 41st St, Miami FL 33137.  It will stand 22 stories high.  If you wanted to buy into it the prices as of September 2007 are charted below.  Join up with this generation’s architectural Picasso, Chad Oppenheim, and sculpt out a new kind of living space.

The company believes that by having unique characteristics to the building, it will create a sense of pride for the tenants and will separate them from other mainstream developments.

Khun Vichai and the company’s intentions are to create a luxurious living space and uniqueness to separate Skywalk from other developments. The radical concepts envisioned by Khun Vichai will rewrite the book on apartment design and will establish the company as the undisputed market leader. One of the unique designs is to put the apartment lobby on the 46th floor to showcase the glass runway. On the 11th floor of the complex, there will also be waterfall in the middle of the building to go with the aquarium and beach complex. This is the second modular show house designed by A-cero. It takes place in Ferrol (La Coruña) and it is available for visits. In this occasion A-cero has chosen a different façade from the Madrid show house. In that way people can see different options that A-cero offers with these modular houses.

This time A-cero has designed a combination of black glass with panels of white aluminum Larson composite. The house has a modern and clean design with the same avant-garde style of the modular house already built in Madrid (that one has a black glass facade).

However, the new modular house has a freshness and clarity touch due to the white colour. Also, the white gravel in the house’s surface accentuates this luminosity sensation. This material is a very affordable and comfortable solution for the owners.

Apart form the “closing extra”, this house has been presented without extras in order to emphasize the house´s structure and give the main role to the excellent quality of its materials and finished.

The house has a 106 m2 area. It includes three bedrooms, two baths, hall, lounge – dining room, laundry room and kitchen. It costs 99.000 euros.

 The house´s furniture has been designed by A-cero. It has been created looking for a functional and modern aesthetics. The house´s decoration is led by the Mercedes Rodríguez pictures, whose abstract and evocative works generally are in every A-cero´s projects.

 A-cero has presented this second modular show house after the first successful modular house which was presented last February in Madrid. Indeed, nowadays ten modular houses are being built (for private costumers) and several promotions will be built the next September. Almost 2.000 budgets have been prepared up to the date too. This is one of the example of minimalist house from Brazilian architect. He mainly used white color to represent the nature of each material and made it bright and clear.

Gama Issa Minimalist Home Design by Marcio Kogan

Brazilian architect Marcio Kogan has designed a modern sustainable house which encloses 700 square meters of living space in two floors situated in a plot of 1700 square meters and enclosed by enormous walls protecting the house which will be covered in natural wood.

The house’s exterior is painted in a cold white tone to take full advantage of the Brazilian sun, and create a contrast with the surrounding environment. The house has a transparency which is obtained from the large sliding glass panels which serve as a wall and have a direct views of the garden and the pool. Large ventilation and natural daylight are available throughout the entire house.

The modern home design has a minimalist garden which overlooks the large bookcases, which occupy one wall on both floors, and run from floor to ceiling neither of which seem to touch the floor or the ceiling due to the construction detail which runs throughout the house.

The interior of the house continues to be covered in tones of white through the usage of various materials like a white toned marble staircase thus reflecting the ambient sunlight which surpasses the large glass panel windows.

MahaNakhon is a planned luxury mixed-use skyscraper to be constructed in the Sathon business area of Bangkok, Thailand. Designed by German architect Ole Scheeren, it will have the unconventional appearance of a glass curtain-walled square tower with a voxelated-surface spiral cut into the side of the building. Upon its estimated completion in 2014, it will become the tallest building in Bangkok at 313 metres (1,027 ft) and 77 floors.

Details on the MahaNakhon project were officially announced on 23 July 2009, with designs by German architect Ole Scheeren, partner of the design firm Office for Metropolitan Architecture. The building is being developed as a joint-venture between the Thai company Pace Development Co., Ltd. and Israel-based Industrial Buildings Corporation PLC. Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2009, and completion is estimated by the year 2012. The total project value is expected to reach eighteen billion baht.

Design and location

The tower’s design will assume the a shape of a square prism with the appearance of a rough spiral with cuboidal surfaces cut into the side of the building. The glass walls are divided horizontally and vertically, adding to the building’s “pixelated” appearance. Its proposed height, 313 metres (1,027 ft), with 77 floors, will make it the tallest building in Bangkok by structural height, surpassing Baiyoke Tower II‘s record of 304 metres (997 ft).

Among the planned features of the building are: 10,000 square metres (110,000 sq ft) of luxury retail space (MahaNakhon Terraces); two hundred units of the Ritz-Carlton Residences, which, with prices starting at 250,000 baht per square meter, will be among the most expensive leases in Bangkok; the Bangkok Edition boutique hotel, with 150 rooms, to be operated by Marriott International with collaboration from Ian Schrager; as well as a roof-top bar and restaurant. The project also features a free-standing seven-storey building (“the Cube”) and an outdoor plaza (“MahaNakhon Square”), which will connect the tower to the Chong Nonsi stations of the BTS Skytrain and the planned Bangkok BRT on Narathiwat Ratchanakharin Road.

MahaNakhon is set on over 9 rai (3.6 acres) of Bangkok’s Central Business District directly fronting Chongnonsi BTS station between Silom and Sathorn Roads. Strategically located halfway between Chao Phraya River and Lumpini Park, which allows easy access to anywhere in the city. The location is surrounded by several luxury hotels and residences, Grade-A offices, world-class shopping centers, and international standard hospitals.
